The one on the one-way train

Colouring the void 
Practically and mentally
bubbling beneath olive skin
ocean of echoes and whispers. 

Smiles under fluorescent light
smells like European summer
drinking compliments 
together at dinner.

Swallowed by the sofa
shoulders fall
our eyes and voice aligned
both hands on the ball.

Hold me up when I stumble 
or join me on the ground
Hold my hand in darkness 
or be my light and sound.

Hear my heart
Feed my brain
Keep me close
on our one-way train. 

Tell me truths in quiet tones,
not just words rehearsed.
Love me in the everyday,
not only at my worst.

And when the world grows weary
when the rain blurs the lines
remind me who I am again
and il do the same, with wine.

1. Hi Charlie. Not sure if you remember me. We were colleges in a different life time. I’ve recently started receiving email notifications regarding your work. Not sure why, but serendipity has its own ends. The subjects/themes of your recent work have been hitting some nerves in me that probably need to be struck. Thanks for sharing and keep it up.

   1. Thanks for reaching out – the page has been dormant for quite some time but I needed an outlet so attempted poetry writing month in April, and decided to keep going 🙂
