#iamgrateful for david bowie
Today’s #iamgrateful is dedicated to David Bowie – the man who put character into his music. Just by forming a poem out of his song titles I feel like I went on an epic journey. There will never be anyone like him on this Earth again. We’ll miss you star man!
Source of Inspiration: A Reality Tour – David Bowie
i’m the rebel
following a different path
just to see the same star
from a new kind of reality
the famous cactus isn’t here
but you’ll see her ‘round midnight
afraid of the snakes
and all the young dudes
away from their wives
the lonely guy stands
behind the mirror, screaming
who sold the world?
I’m on a fantastic voyage
mad man with a blue box
where is that space boy?
Sunday springs
into daylight
under the suns pressure
unveiling Mars
we’ll fight this battle
rise from the ashes
loving an alien
from the corner Motel
it never gets old
the Americans are afraid of change
but they, we can be heroes
listen to the Disco King
before five years
slips away
and we’re hanging onto ourselves
in the dust of the stars
left on the moon.
The angels are gone
and this girl
has this day.
#iamgrateful for transportation
My bell is my melody
as I glide though my city
a cultural legacy
carved into her memory.
Ding Ding Ding, I echo
my driver stands and bellows
‘watch your step, my dear fellow”
as people look up, ‘hello’
I meander through buildings
stopping when the people sing
tinned sardines, more are boarding
my green poles they try to cling.
Taking them from home to work
the managers and their clerk
from Collins to Little Bourke
every 10, just like clockwork.
#iamgrateful to wake up every morning
Twee-twoo-twoo-twee-twoo
the merry morning magpies sing
twee-twoo-twoo-twee-twoo
it’s a beautiful time, to spring
from my cozy blanket nest
I set my eyes on the big blue
the sun knows no rest
as I stagger to find my shoe.
#iamgrateful for my iPhone
I have this little universe
It’s a blessing and a curse
My eyes are enchanted all day
‘Please light up my world’, I pray
Any pause in activity
Will bug me for eternity
So my eyes lock in at first light
and rarely strays from my sight
It’s a blessing and a curse
But iPhone, life without you would be worse!
#iamgrateful paradise
Paradise is but a picture
Heaven an idea
Over the rainbow
End somewhere
Never ending stories
Inside the eyes of hope
X marks the spot.
Rejoice in faith
Invite the future
Songs of the southern isle
Evergreens persevere
Sunshine in paradise

Journey
Inspired by Thomas Moore ‘The Journey Onwards’
The plot was marked above the earth
gravity she was breaking
her tail pointed towards her birth
and her eyes towards her dreaming.
It’s always hard to leave our friends
the people that define us
but on we go around the bends
away from those who think they know us.
The tapestry of all our years
tell the tales of our growing
we look back on them with happy tears
with memories overflowing.
Reliving moments way back when
affirm the threads that bind us
enrich our love again, again
for those we left behind us.
And as she breathes each foreign shore
and wanders every street
she thinks on love for evermore
and looks for it, in those she meets.
Another scene marks another weave
older chapters start to fade
but the light of love never leaves
and so her story is made.
So, when the road comes to an end
and her tapestry is complete
she’ll think of those from way back when
her people, she will greet.
Written for R U Okay Day 2015
I started writing this weeks ago for R U Okay Day but forgot to post as I got distracted with life. But here it is. Better late than never…
there is
thunder
in my thoughts
this enemy
has been caught
today
my attention
shorts
as a silver lining
is sought
the curtains veil
my weary eyes
this lead weight smile
my only disguise
people keep asking
why?
It is what it is.
Sigh.
Every day my thoughts
climb this wall
heeding to the worldly call
A soldier must never fall
Every day, the same old game
screaming silently in mental pain
the heart is beating
the lungs are breathing
but the thoughts want to blame
and escape
the suffocating shame
of the toxic enemy
haunting this brain.
Dear …,
You’re bird shit on my window
every day, I don’t see you
but if you left, I’d miss you.
You’re a cloud around my dreams
try as I might, I can’t see
how you could possibly be.
You’re the abstract on my wall
images painting the clues
can’t you see my, your, our truth.
You’re a voice drawn on my phone
speaking words I cannot hear
I just don’t care – that’s my fear.
I’m the unicorn you wanted
I’m creative and I flaunt it
I’m screaming for you… can you hear it!
