This week, Melbourne

Mother must think its winter

She is heating up the house

Unleashing a wrath of rays

Summer has arrived, Melbourne.

Sweltering in the south land

Stifled within a furnace

Baking in an earth-like kiln

Hell hath arrived in Melbourne.

Beaten by a wall of heat

Weary from restless sleeping

Grouchy from public delays

Melting with you, our Melbourne.

Storming through the urban town

Flashing when things get too low

Igniting country bush lands

It’s a fiery time, Melbourne.

Torture comes in many forms

Extremes go beyond the graph

People are put to the test

It’s a tough week in Melbourne.

Sitting under a southern sky

soaking up the tranquil day

I watch the world pass me by

from the city by the bay.

The sky is the bluest blue

and the trees burst out in song.

The natives drink their home brew

in the land that they belong.

Stickiness and ickyness

there is nothing we can do

The end is anyones guess

and we do not have a clue.

So grab your sunnies and your hats,

and head on down to the coast.

Here it is,  summers back

and we’re all about to roast!

Shallot

Watching the season’s come and go.
Tiny bulbs in the earth below,
From Surrey’s meadow, we did grow.
Our destiny we did not know.

Summer plucked us from the ground,
And exiled us – for a measly pound!
Farmer Trumps made no sound!
For mother’s hot pot we were bound…
