What have you been up to since high school?

I’ve been doing that thing called learning.

Every day I have begun again.

My life is like a candle burning.

In the fires, I have found my Zen.

I live in a world filled with anarchy.

I have battled the front lines of darkness.

I have stood with my friends in unity.

I have fought to bring back their sparkle.

I have studied Durkheim, Weber and Jung.

Travelled the world with Mr Bryson.

Found Shakespeare in a crowded room

and Chesterton in darkest London.

I’ve climbed atop Arthurs Seat (Scotland),

and rode a plastic cart down the Great Wall.

I’ve drunk Champagne on the banks of the Seine

and got lost in a Kowloon mall.

I’ve driven along Australian highways

in my beautiful Red Capri,

I’ve swum about Port Phillip Bay

and watched the stars on the drive to Sydney.

I’ve felt the emptiness of waiting rooms

and drunk coffee that tastes like piss

I’ve felt the skies roar with thunderous booms

peace and miracles are my Christmas wish.

I’ve worn different characters and costumes,

they have called me Chum, Alice and Red.

The weirdest one was in a ballroom,

and like Cinderella, I danced and fled.

I have laughed until I’m blinded by tears,

and cried till I couldn’t breath

moments made memories through the years

of my friends, my family and me.

What have I been doing since high school?

Well, simply put, it’s just like this

I’ve been playing the game, learning the rules,

creating memories to reminisce.

NaPoWriMo – 7/30 – View from the campervan

I’ve finally arrived back in Melbourne city after spending the last five days in the red centre of Australia. The following is inspired by my final moments there… and I am happy to have finally caught up with napowrimo.

the endless grassy landscape

to much for one heart to take

little geckos try to blend

young dingos want a friend

looking beyond what i see

the laughter of family

penetrates the silent dreams

as thirsty eyes search for streams

I love this sunburnt country

like a kestral floating free

I love this sunburnt country

roaming wild and free.

NaPoWriMo – 6/30 – Kathleen Springs

An aqua family
lives below copper rocks
that enclose and impose
over a desert valley.

The rainbow dragons fly
twinkling above the still
dancing the whistling breeze
listening to the birds squee and cry,

Rustles in nearby grass
warrants suspicious looks
studying every blade
a city girls anxious task.
But deep in this spiritual home
all can come and all can roam.

A Political Landscape

Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 8.24.50 pm

Nail you political colours
a wall of activism
selling on the nations streets
plaster across the cityscape

hopeless, pretty hopeless
leaving people behind

imagined inspirations
such grand aspirations
depicts the grim situation
people tweeting red.

Put Out Your Bats

Things happen.

You just don’t think they are going to happen

but they do.

A fallen hero

things happen

but then they get better

but sometimes they don’t.

I saw red bold letters

I saw yesterday on replay

I felt the sun shining

I heard clouds on the bay

Flags fell

Wishes made

Prayers barely answered

hope fell into shade

Darkness cast shadows,

against the light of humanity

but breathes of love

in the veins of a global community

roared across oceans

to the place I call home.

Streets lined with cricket bats

wherever I roam.

I didn’t know you

I only knew of you

I feel the pain of losing you

because I feel the grief left by you

Things happen

Nonsensical things happen

and we all keep asking

why did it happen to you?

Written for Phil Hughes & Cricketing Community. I can’t say I ever followed cricket or know much of the team but what happened last week I felt in my heart just like the rest of the world. It’s just so shocking and I still can’t believe it.  I had to write something.
